I guess it depends on what you dislike about where you are. I am going to live in the UK and all the scary stories about there aren't much better. As someone seems to say around here....same shit, shinier bucket!

Hiya, we are in a small village called broughton. We havent really got anywhere with our applications yet, just been in touch with a company thats going to do our assessment and stuff and then take it from there, how far along are you? is it a really long difficult process? :unsure:
Its a bit scary just hope that we are doing the right thing and the company we use is ok, there are sooo many out there and we havent really got a clue where to begin with the whole process. :confused:

If you are looking at somewhere like Kendal the place is made up of either accountant firms or builders so you should be sorted for work. The economy is always buoyant due to tourism. Why you leaving Oz? We are in Kendal but want to go to Adelaide...

I will try and tactfully say why I want to leave Oz because last time I did It didn't go too well :p

I grew up in Brisvegas and life was pretty sweet except for the humidity so when my hubby suggested we move to Perth to be near his family I though great, a nice change of climate, a chance to start fresh, etc. closer to family.

Family life didn't work out and basically it's just Me, Hubby and the 2 kidlets alone in Perth, have made some good friends, the best of them being the Pom's :eek:

Anyway my Neighbour went back to the UK for 3 months over Xmas and has decided she will go back next year permanently, well this put idea's into our tiny little brains, so we thought 'us too!!' Hubby was born in UK so he and kids can get British passports and I will get Wifey Visa.

Also we want to see the world and I really do not cope at all with the heat or the bugs so am practically a hermit during summer, then in Winter it just rains all the time anyway, so am hoping I will have a bit more life in me in a cooler climate.

Can I ask why Adelaide? My husband grew up in Adelaide, it's not the best choice 'duck's and cover's from the flaming about to receive"

There does seem to be a lot of visa companies about. We had quotes from a couple of firms but then decided to do it all ourselves. It was hard at times to get motivated to fill all the forms in but its a hell of a lot cheaper! We had a quote for £4000 but doing it ourselves, it has cost £1400 ish thats with paying for medicals as well.

I keep wondering whether we are doing the right thing, i keep thinking will my 1 year old grow up and hate us for taking her away from the rest of her family but I would rather try it and fail that not try and think "what if" all our life!!

How old are you? What is your trade?

Hey Richard, im in kendal, its a small world isnt it. Im in touch with a guy in cairns where we'r heading. He went to a house warming the other week turns out the girl who was having the party was from Kendal. Year older than me and thinks she knows me. Still waiting to find out her name! Where are ya in kendal?

We lived in West Cumbria in Seascale, St Bees, Gosforth, Whitehaven, Moor Row, Lowca, Moresby & Bowthorn. Not all at the same time..though:ohmy:

Joking aside ..it is a very beautiful place of the world, I think 'Miss Potter' was filmed a few miles from where we used to live.

I always felt confident the kids were being brought up in a safe environment but I found employment pretty scarce...can anyone remember when Morrisons opened in Whitehaven? Weren't there about 1000 applicants just for the checkout cashiers or something ridiculous.

We love Cumbria but on the other side of the world..lol

My mam is panicing now though. Wonder if anyone can help? She is 47 and doesnt this she will be acccepted. She is on a Skilled Independant Visa with her hubby (my stepdad) as the main applicant as he is a painter/decorator and he is only 43. She thinks that neither of them will get in as she is over the 45 year cut off age.

Any info from anyone who knows about this situation?

You certainly can...

Out of all of the places I have looked at Adelaide offers more of what we are after. The larger cities are too expensive, the Gold Coast looks good but is too glitzy if you know what I mean... Adelaide offers a fairly relaxed environment if a little 'ordinary' - but Kendal is hardly the centre of the universe is it!! Note these are observations done from afar and we would certainly look at doing a recce before committing ourselves - it would be a big stuff up if we didn't like it once we got there!!
