Isnt it illegal to harm these snakes unless they pose a real and present danger?

except the King Brown is completely and utterly unrelated to the Eastern. They are not even part of the same sub species. The King Brown is part of the Black snake family, hence why it is now going by its other name now, the Mulga, to avoid confusion.
That photo appears to show a slender type snake with a pronounced head on it. The Mulga does not have much of a neck on it and the head is almost a continuation of the body. It could well be the Mulga, but that is the slimmest Mulga I've ever seen

Also I think you mean it isnt part of the same genus not sub species. It is more likely to be a King Brown than anything else, the Dugite for example has a pronounced spotted belly. Its very hard to tell from the belly of a mangled snake but I can only use my 40+ years of keeping and studying reptiles to give my best opinion.

[QUOTE=chris955;10959082]I was referring to the fact that an EASTERN Brown isnt found in WESTERN Australia, hence the clue is in the name

It's all brian's fault, if I'd known he was in WA I wouldn't have guessed an eastern brown and made an egg of myself

My first reaction was dugite

Looking at that link I'd say it was dugite. That link suggests it's the Gwarder that has the spotted belly.
Dugite come in all sorts of colors.

See this thread is being populated with comments from naive and uneducated people, the Eastern brown got it's name cos it's brown and lives opposite the western bit, whereas the King Brown only got its name after it's population reached plague proportions in the 70's. 'Eek, what's that???' 'Nothing, just another king brown snake' sharpen up folks and start posting some facts please
