I hope everyone noticed Eddie's birdsong-blue elbow? An honourable scar.
Really enjoyed the blitz mentality of eight people cooking on one small, and not very hot barbecue!!
What a larf!

How many people to you get at these events? I've lived in Daisy Hill/Shailer park for 10 years and have never heard of any UK ex pat get togethers. All the expats I know meet up for a few beers down at Slacks Creek Soccer Club, my wife louise is getting bored of that so maybe we'll come along to your next get together - keep us posted.

Hi all
The Cookies all had a great time, though a few shiny faces were around in the morning! It was a great opportunity to reaqauint from the first meet and find out how people are getting on.
Thanks for the salad stuff ABC - and good luck with the dig at the councillors for extra BBQ facilities!
I think the next meet should be north of the river - the other 2 have been south, so it only seems fair!

Hi to all,
Great to meet you all yesterday. I had a wonderful time, with the exception of riding home with the sun in my eyes!:scared: Definitely looking forward to the next one. Mrs Dagboy mentioned Mount Coot-tha as a possibility, so if anyone's interested in that idea I could check out the picnic sites for suitability. (I live just down the road from there, and I've been meaning to check it out anyway)
See you later
Jim

Mt Cootha would definitely be one of my suggestions, JC Slaughter Falls is a lovely park at the base, would be very nice for a picnic/BBQ get together at that time of year ie getting cooler when the beach for the kids is not as much of a viable option. Nice walk to the Falls & through the bush to a couple of aboriginal landmarks etc. But it depends on where everyone else wants to go. I just make the suggestions
.
I have another idea up my sleeve which doesnt involve BBQs or lack thereof or beaches/parks, but will leave that until a later date

. Our get togethers are just people who have gotten to know each other (or want to get to know each other!) from this forum. Not huge, around 30-40 or so people plus kids, depending on whos free on the specified day. Our meetings arent defined by the fact that we all have a common interest eg soccer, simply the fact that we are expats who use this website. (Well actually apart from me, Im not even British LOL
) . Most havent been in Australia as long as you & for many its an opportunity to discuss their new lives & compare notes.Keep an eye out for the thread, if you hang around on here you will start to get to know some people beforehand. Welcome to the forum
.
