It's not you, I don't think it's the same either.

Hang on! How cheap were you hoping for?

It seems from posts on here that bread can be as much as $3. Say 20 slices in a loaf, so 15c a slice. Let's be generous and have 4 slices of toast - that's 60c. Then a tin of beans for $1.70.

So - meal at $2.30. Seems pretty cheap to me.

Cheers,

I bought barramundi at hte market today. Never had it before..any good ideas how ot cook it other than plain grilled or fried?

BTW...i am astounded at the prices some people are quoting here. My one stop "shop" is the equisite market in Adleaide and i have managed to do a whol weeks food shopping for 2 adults for less than $80 and that includes the barramundi AND 2 lovely looking salmon steaks!!

Try something different to English food and do what the locals do..eat whats in season and try new things!!

i know i'm a saddo, but the biggest discovery i made coming to the southern hemisphere is pumpkin!!!...so damn cheap and one of the nicest foods i know of...cant beat pumpkin soup and crusty bread!

But most are forced into Woolies and Coles embrace. They bought out and closed down the competition most places.

we have bi lo and foodland here...i remember reading that Aldi have stores in other states and are supposed to be really cheap.

I am coming to the conclusion that it always seems to be Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane where high food prices are quoted. You would think it would be cheaper considering the bigger population, but it appears not so.

Well, being on the poverty line I used to buy Sainsburys own brand stuff a lot, and could do beans on toast with a 9p tin of beans, and a few slices from a 19p loaf!!

Howver, I do agree with you $2.30 is till quite cheap for a meal.

Woolies & Coles bought up the grocery competition and closed them down. They did not do that to lower prices. Aldi caters to the financially distressed by providing a narrow range of shoddy goods.
