The best beach in the world (better than anything in Australia) is Cape Vidal, Zululand, South Africa.

We went off in our camper van this summer for 5 weeks. We had a week in Newquay in Cornwall. While we were there, we took to the surf, albeit on bodyboards. It was fab and I can't wait to trade in my bodyboard and have a go at the real thing. Thanks for the information provided so far, especially from Dag, as we are hoping to live in Brisbane.

Re: Bronte Beach
Originally posted by bondipom Bronte and Tamarama Beaches Tamarama AKA Glamarama. A small beach south of Bondi known for its *n*l floss wearers getting ready for Mardi Gras. It has rocky surf break for the experienced board riders. One cafe but I have never eaten there. Bronte Beach was my regular when I lived in Darlinghurst. It has a strip of excellent cafes, a great little beach and a good surf break that works better with a northerly to eastern swell. What makes Bronte is the park behind the sea front and the shade. It is much more of a family beach than the other 2 I have reviewed. Hopefully NickyC and RichS will review Coogee and Maroubra beach. |
Re: Bronte Beach
theres no better beach than whitley bay. lovely yellow sand ideal for mixing with cement and you have got the beautiful freezing cold polluted north sea lapping up against it.....

Re: Beaches of Australia
Originally posted by bondipom Not every expat but most of us enjoy the Aussie beach. Just thought I would start a thread to review the beaches we know. No surprises where I will start. Bondi - The best City beach in the world. I would say they wouldn't I. Lets get the downside out of the way. The 200m of Campbell Parade North of Hall St where Maccas and the big chain fast food joints are. I tend to detour via the beach myself. The sand is very fine and light (gets in all the cracks though) but the place is not for those after solitude. It is an active beach about 2kms long with the southern end reserved for surfers in summer. The northern end always has a flagged area except in heavy seas. The days of the Bondi cigars are over and water quality is rarely an issue unless there has been a storm (find me a city beach where that isn't the case). The Beach faces SSE so it picks up a southerly swell and is protected from blue bottles. The place is good for kook (see the A - Z Oz Dictionary) surfers and there is very little attitude in the line up. The North head at Ben Buckler is excellent for a snorkel when the seas are flat. There are wobbygong sharks and blue gropers lurking down there. When you have finished your hard days sun bathing or surfing there is a huge choice of restaurants and take aways ranging from deep fried Mars Bars at the chippy to world class restaurants (Seans Panorama, Hugos and Bondi Icebergs). Then onto the nightlife. A band at BBs, dancing at the Beach road, pretentious people watching at Ravesis or mix it with the locals at the Royal. Not a quiet place but solitude can get boring. What would you say is the best beach in Perth , especially for children. When we visited we did Hilliary's,Scarborough and Rottnest's.....but what do those living there think ?? - by the way our little one will be 7yrs when we get there...hopefully ? Warren Perth 2004..... |
lovely photos - hubby speshly appreciated photo of attractive young lady doing her situps!!!!
keep em coming!!! sue (having a BAD week) |
Coogee
Coogee! Four beaches south of Bondi. Smaller than Bondi, bigger than Bronte. Bit like Bondi's kid brother - doesn't have quite so many crowds and odd-ball characters or quite such good surf. It does have heaps of cafes, couple of pubs, endless variety of takeaway food and zillions of British backpackers (think a lot them feel safer when the surf's only knee-high!). Good beach for families and very handy for me, because I only have to walk down the hill to get there.
Have to say that it's not my most favourite beach though. Top of my list would Green Patch in Jervis Bay. Gorgeous beach, bushy backdrop, rocks to explore and crimson rosellas flying around. Could only be in Australia. |

Some of the beaches further north in Queensland such as Dingo Beach and Mission Beach are beautiful.
Unfortunately as with most of Queensland's Northern Beaches they are too dangerous to swim in during the summer because of 'Stinger' or Box Jellyfish and in some places, Estuarine crocodiles.:scared: G |

FOR GODS SAKE Timber Floor Au,
Your beach babe must be all of 12 years old. tiredwithtwins, Watch Out ! Your hubby may trade you in for a MUCH newer model. |
beaches
not sure if this thread is only about sydney beaches but my favourite beach was Mission Beach a couple of hours south of Cairns. You could pick your spot as it was never crowded and although you had to swim in stinger nets in the summer you couldnt beat watching the sun come up over Dunk Island. I also worked on Fitroy island on the great barrier reef and i dont think theres much that can beat having a beach and reef almost in your living room. cant wait to go back!!!!!! Would love to know if anyone has been to either of these place too
jules ps hope typing is too bad but half way through our second bottle of jacobs creek shiraz! |
