When I was a lad in the UK we had 2A, 5A, 10A and 15A round pin plugs and sockets - all different sizes, so you had to have a collection of adaptors around the house. The introduction of the 13A plug was a brilliant idea - especially for the electricians who got to rewire every house to put in the new sockets!
