In order of priority, whose answers to whose questions are we waiting for?

Actually not. Very selective morality but quick to name call alternative thoughts. The world has seen the results of right wing extremism all too often. Not the way to life a happy life.

Re: An apology to asylum seekers
The right and left are both paranoid about refugees (they are both 'wedged' on same 'dog whistle'), but Labor fell hook line and sinker for all the other racist proxies under the guise of 'sustainable population' issues, as propagated by Oz end of US white nativists (whom also inform Population Matters in the UK).
As I told a Scottish Oz friend (5 years Oz citizen) at weekend (with strong WASPish attitudes) who complained about too many 'Indians' etc. in Melbourne ('runaway population growth'), like his relatives there do as well, why don't you go home?
Issue for me (born bred in Oz bush) and other Australians is when newer immigrants want to lift up the drawbridge, after they have arrived, and use 'lifeboat ethics' arguments to justify, to maintain status quo, or is it something deeper and nastier?

While I am against your Scottish friends stance on Indian immigration it is rather obvious immigration is far too high overall. More people more competition may be good for business but will induce a lowering of living standards.
The whole refugee fiasco is something of a smokescreen if a nasty one playing right into the hands of the bigots, whom are all too many in the community, allowing justification at reffo bashing and to pretend it even something else at times.
Meanwhile the real issue of the issuing of 457's to low skilled workers continues unabated with business wanting ever les restrictions while large numbers of Aussie workers go jobless. Especially young and older workers.
Nether party is worthy of governance and nothing at all to suggest the bad management of the nation will dissipate anytime in the near future.
Not a pretty sight on many fronts for the future with present government more concerned about corporates and elites and nothing of any confidence to pick from opposing factions.

Interestingly Morrison has no interest in following the Agreement Australia signed up to by his actions, but also no interest in withdrawing as well, as I read today.

A question for Wol, can we and should we do more?
Sure. Lets increase the number. Why not? I don't think I've seen anyone dispute that idea on this thread.
Over to you.

Still as a man who gave the go ahead for the usage of yet another slogan, "Where the Bloody Hell Are You?" when head of Tourism Australia, thinking it a great selling pitch, forgetting he was targeting an audience not confined to Red Necks and Bogans, Ockers and the Semi Literate, but a cashed up sophisticated international audience, little could be expected.
He has ambitions for the top job. God help Australia if he ever gets even a sniff of the top job.

Why decline the number on this government getting to power in the first place. The figure of 20,000 under Labor could have been upped to 25,000 with little fun fare, giving Australia considerable leverage internationally and allowing sounder long term solutions to be sought regarding direct entry.

Re: An apology to asylum seekers
Your answer to my question is correct and pretty much my answer to Wol. No-one was suggesting to have an unlimited threshold on asylum seeker intake. No-one even knows what is the exact correct number to put on it, as JoeBloggs mentioned yesterday. But your high king Tony and his ever faithful sidekick Morrison want to do less, far less. If you're ok with that and prepared to accept their reasoning on it saving more lives instead of the truthful reason for them employing such a disgusting policy then good for you. You have your cake and you've got cream on your face.
