Hi Niamh,

No I'm not annoyed and do agree with you, getting a rental is our first priority,we're hoping to get one within 2 weeks...any tips on this from anyone would be welcome, our friends live in Somerly,Clarkson,we would like to live near a train line or at least a bus connection as our daughters 20,22,24 do like a bit of night life and I'm am worried about this knowing that Perth is very quiet also they will probably be using public transport for work.We are shipping a 20ft container on 17th of this month, which should arrive 2-3 weeks after us so defo need a place to live as soon as possible.

Thanks

S.

Yep just shy of a year LOL Im very happy I went, I had some good times met lovely people and made some very good friends, but I also had probably the hardest & worst time of my life ever. we had planned on being in Australia for 2 years, but I underestimated how bad my homesickness would be.

We will go back before our visa is up!for at least 3 months if I think small I may be able to do longer!

Hi Baby75

Sorry to hear that your move didn't work out but at least you gave it a go and are now where you are meant to be.

I see from some of your previous threads that you travelled to Oz with a 2 and 1/2 week old, I was just wondering how did that work with the visa. We have a PR175 for myself, wife and 3 year old but wife is expecting baby in March and we want to go as soon as possible after baby is born. We have been told that we need to apply for visa for new born. Will it take long, is it straightforward enough, did it only take you a week or so to organise visa, passport etc?

If we could go 2-3 weeks after birth we would love to. How did baby cope with flight?

Thanks

well have you a cup of tea? lol We traveled over to OZ when I was 27 weeks pregnant on an (ETA holiday Visa) we were under fierce pressure from friends in oz to come over they were going traveling and wanted us to mind the house while they were gone among other things!, but any way we got to oz and I was happy enough with the care I received had a few problems at the end of the pregnancy so ended up being induced which delayed our visa we got the visa in July but were waiting for a letter for the visa, got that then they changed the rules were only the main applicant would have to leave Australia meaning I would not have to worry about flying so late in the pregnancy he could go to nz validate and come back and I could go in the allotted time frame, when we received visa grant letter, all of us had to leave scary as I could not travel we were running out of time as our ETA was up on the 12 of September and I was still pregnant and we had to wait for baby to be born and then we had to add her to the application, birth cert, passport and a medical in 2 weeks!!!! when we fist found out that we would have to add the baby and we were panicking as our case officer told us that if our eta ran out and we did not have PR we would be in trouble IE people come looking for you. so he was advising us to get an extension on to the eta which cost a fair amount of money nearly another 1000 so we rang them back and said we just couldn't do that, we got through to our case officer supervisor and he said once the baby was born go straight away get the birth cert, then the passport once we had that we needed the medicals then all of us leave Australia!

we did it in two weeks, well my DH did it in two weeks with our 3 sons he made 10 of him self , we were very lucky with the Irish embassy and they were very helpful and we got the passport in record time. the medical was arranged so the doctors who sign them off were in the center that day and normally they would send them off but they gave them to us luck was clearly on our side. so we traveled to NZ on the 10 of September and Eireann was born on the 26th of August early but very healthy lol. we had more drama in the hospital as they were panicking I could not deliver normally and they would section me! which would have meant I couldn't fly so we had to fight our corner there I knew my body they did not have my medical history so they were doing their job but I was right and delivered normally and quickly!

so its is not to hard to add the baby to your visa application the case officer will advise you on that. don't do as I did stay were you are on till after the baby is born in familiar surroundings with friends and family around. a newborn can fly when they are two weeks old personally I would rather not do it, but I had to and she was fine not a bother, needed extra clothes for me and her as babies are messy! I know before you leave for OZ it feels like you'll never get there. but take your time make sure the time is right your wife may still be feeling very tender and hormonal at that stage. but hope that has helped and congrats on the baby and best of luck with it all.

yes I doubt I would settle there long term, but I did enjoy Australia I really missed home and my family, but we had some very bad luck and some very bad friends who did not help, I would tell all but don't want it to be ever read! at the time I came on here and got some excellent advice but I had the thread deleted when some one quoted me on another forum. scared the hell out of me as we were still on some very unsettled ground and we did not want to make it worse.

I have a great excuse to go back PR visa and my brother is living in Perth! Im looking forward to going back but not the flights !

Hi,

Does anyone know what the longest return date I can book in advance?

I have heard it is either 12 or 18 months.

I got my little sticker on my passport so its time to book flights

Hi,

I want to buy a roundtrip flight from Ireland to Oz.

I am wondering to how far in advance I can prebook the return leg of the journey.

I am planning to leave Ireland in Jan 2010, so I would like to return to ireland for a holiday in say Jan 2011 or May 2011. That would be 12 to 17 months after I leave Ireland.

Some sites such as expedia.com will only allow me to book a roundtrip flight leaving Jan 2010 and returning Sep 2010. Others such as Ethiad or Singapore airlines allow me to book the return leg as early Oct 2010.

Some travel agents say that you can only book roundtrip flights up 12 months in advance and other agents say this can be pushed to 18 months.

I dont fancy just buying a one way ticket as flights from oz to ireland are expensive.

So any advice would be helpful.

We booked one way with Malaysia Airlines,I tried though to book my Daughter an open ticket so she could choose her return date further down the road, they said no couldn't do it,and would book return flight only on a specific date up to one year.We ended up just getting her a one way.....hope she'll change her mind and stay anyway
