By all means offer suggestions to improve my cooking /decoration/ hospitality but in a positive way. Same goes for thoughts of your new home.
By the same token, this kind of response is annoying to me.

Are you seriously saying that on an information forum where a lot of people are still making their minds up whether to go, or are looking for advice and other peoples experience, that they should only get the sugar coated stuff??
As in "dont burst our bubble", lets all be polite.
If you dont like living in the country you went to, why should you be gagged from telling it how you see it?

I think everyone has the right to say it how they see it. Just because YOU dont like it or agree with it tough tittie!!
I think it is somewhat arrogant to tell people how or what their replies or posts should be. Unless they are rude and abusive EVERYONE should be free to post their thoughts and experience how they want to without being picked on.

Exactly. As I may have said before, there's a hell of a difference between whingeing on about the lack of Marmite, or the price of lettuce and *real* deficiencies such as will to provide what is paid for, for example.

I am still waiting, 12 months after paying in full for my windows, for all the glass to be replaced. It's five months since I was promised the required drain tray under the heating furnace would be supplied. The hygrostat for the A/C took some three months to get. My loft insulation had to be completely re-done and I'm still not sure it's done properly.

*These* are things which are IMO legitimate complaints, and are the other side of the rose-tinted specs which ought to be voiced. Otherwise we are in the same position as so many "natives"" quite content to carry on as before.

At what point did I say no-one should post their views? You seem to be rather blinded to any slightly positive things being posted, because you loathe Oz.
If you read my comment properly, you will see I said just don't slate everything. Inevitably some people will find ALL trademen THEY deal with, to be awful, but how can that translate into 'nothing in this country works" (regardless of which country)

I dislike the 'everything in Oz is great' brigade as much as I dislike the 'everything about Oz is crap" brigade. If you dislike the place, of course you are entitled to that view, but don't tell wannabe migrants that they are making the worst mistake of their lives. Let them make up their own minds- who knows the odd one may actually want to stay....
Some come and love it, some come and hate it, some come (like us) and feel pretty comfortable here. Let everyone make up their own mind.

I suggest you re read MY post. Not once did i say you told people they could not post, i said you were telling them HOW they should post.

You also presume too much in saying i loathe OZ. Where did you read me saying that? Please do not assign something to me which is false and incorrect.
I dislike a lot of the attitudes of people in Aus and yes, there are other things i dont like about the place, but i have never said i loathe it. I am just very glad i came back to blighty!! In my opinion it is a far better place to live than Australia, and after living in it for several years i feel fully qualified to say so!

I have never once slagged anyone off on these forums for belittling Britain or expressing their reasons for wanting to get out. Good luck to them. Just as those of us who do not rate Aus as a great place to live have the right to express it, so do those who are anti UK.

I agree with the fact that everyone has an opinion
At the end of the day oz wont be for everyone and for some people no matter where they are or what they do in life they arnt happy or cant be pleased in any way.
I think that most people who go to oz will be very happy and for those people you probably never here from them agin on BE. You always here the bad about things its the same with anything in life, i would be very very suprised if somone told me that 100% of people that went to oz were estatic about there move.
I do agree though that anyone with axes to grind should keep there opinions on the mbtuk section so not to upset us people with dreams to be had

hey Sanity returns....finally heading back the right way (for me at least!) Although I hear its expected that the interest rate in Australia is expected to go up in November (BBC WORLD NEWS 15/10) - so that may put a dampener on this latest rise. Ive decided to wait transfering large sums until up at the 230 rate again....hopefully!

Lou, I'm in a strange dilema. I can't go home even if it reaches 1 to 1. But there is a huge temptation to transfer the money back to make up some of my huge losses on this house. Problem is with the money back home and me stuck here I'm not sure what to do for the beast.

Also interest rates need to be taken into account, Uk's is much lower and falling whereas here it's high and rising. The rest of the world is falling too. just Australia bucking the trend.

Hi there arkon, why can't you go home even if exchange rates reach parity? What is it that is keeping you here and actually preventing you from returning?

I now realise there are other more important factors stopping you returning to the UK than the exchange rate.

All the best Arkon and I hope you eventually find something that makes you happy wherever you are.
