Re: Moans, groans, grunts and wheezes...
Change of subject. but doctor related.
I have just been to see the opthamologist with my four year old. He is really short sighted but even when he is wearing his specs he can't see much. The doctor is referring us to (and I quote) 'visita di controlli ed eventuali accertamenti elettrofisiologici'. When she explained what she wanted to check I was so busy getting into a panic about the fact that I am going to have to take him into Milan that I didn't ask how they would do this. Does anyone have any experience of this? Will they have to put him into one of those tunnel things to scan his brain? Because, quite frankly, if they try that he will turn round like a dog and refuse to co-operate, unless I train him up.
Thanks

Also, they are talking about prescribing contacts instead of glasses. Does anyone have any experience of lenses and really little children? I imagine that I am going to have to be pretty hands on with them, which will be ummmm challenging.

The little bug*** is still under investigation. There isn't anything wrong with his neural pathways so now they are going to check his retina properly under sedation (but not a general). During the explanations the doctor kept stressing the fact that it would still be a visita and not an intervento. So, I was wondering what the difference was, or is it just semantics?

A friend's daughter was prescribed contacts at a very young age because the shape of her eye caused very bad eye sight. The theory is that while hepling to see, the lense will push the eye back into a more round shape. It was a total disaster. She just couldn't get her daughter to wear them. When her daughter reached 18 she had her eyes lasered.

Thanks Garbatellamike, big difference indeed.
Patty - he had some photos done today, he had to sit still for 10 minutes looking into a white box before they were taken. He did really well.
The doc said that sometimes contacts gives a better correction than glasses, plus you can see out the corner of your eyes. I know from experience that this is indeed true.
I just wish they could say for certain what is and isn't possible for him (either now or in the future) but he seems to be causing a bit of a mystery. Although after spending the morning in the company of children who have really serious eye problems I feel lucky that this is all we have to deal with.

Back to Lorna's question about flights, have you tried the www.skyscanner.com site? You just input your departure and destination airport and preferred travel dates and it gives you all the flight options including timings and prices, and it includes regular and budget airlines as well as direct and indirect possibilities.

My OH came home from Canada on Thursday. On the way up the taxi driver said to him,
"so you're off again on Monday. Where to this time?"
OH asked him what the hell he was talking about so the taxi driver told him he'd been booked to take him back to the airport on Monday morning.
Bloody unprofessional when a taxi driver knows more than you do!

OH's granny died about an hour ago. I had to ring him up in Russia and tell him to get home. I felt bloody awful for him and my lovely MIL who rang me with the sad news.
She was 91 and didn't die in any pain so that's good. I've told the kids as well.

It is always sad when people leave us, no matter their age. I hope she had a happy life.
