I thought it was going to be a thread about winter ills, coughs and colds ........ but Duffer and Pecora would have had something to say whatever you had named the new thread.

Here's my mini moan ...... I hate, hate, hate packing but I'm better at it, or lazier than ever this year. Minimal essentials only, a couple of outfit changes and shopping in the UK on Wednesday.

Fingers crossed no more snow between now and landing tomorrow.

Thanks sweetie. You have a great time as well. Has your lad already finished school in the UK? Hope he manages to get here safely if he's not here already.

Yes, he arrived a few weeks ago - lots of sickness at school again - I think I might just write off next winter term!!!;)

I think you might as well. Is this the third year now that's he's been poorly over winter and close to Christmas?

At least you have him safe and warm at home.

This time it was an epidemic at school! Nearly 2/3rds were out and he had a sore throat (as usual but not as bad as usual) so we didn't send him back...Means we've lost fees as we can't claim insurance but I'd rather that than he be sick over Christmas again!!

Two thirds sounds like a lot - loads actually. At least he's better off here with you and not picking up God only knows what else from school to make him feel worse or get sick over the holidays. I'm sure you'd like to have a sick free family Christmas holiday this year.

PACKING !

It's that time of year to pack the case
so I start to collect things we need to take.
Jumpers for kids and thick winter socks,
and then OH tells me he's buggering off.

“Where are you going?” I ask all surprised
never thinking he'd leave me high and dry.
'Just off to a mate's to sort a few things.'
and he leaves me surrounded by bows and strings.

I have presents to wrap and clothes to pack,
the kids need a bath and there's an ache in my back.
Got to push on, there's no time to flop,
check website again to see if snow has stopped.

Get perfume, toothbrushes, make-up and bling
add knickers and bras, more stuff to bring.
Don't forget medicines and mp3,
remember Nintendo and gift for Marie.

Remember the passports and boarding passes
print everything out, leave no chances.
Put cash in my purse and recharge the 'phone
if we get stuck, I'll need to call home.

Sit down for five minutes and slug some wine
check out BE tonight for last time
Wish on-line friends a jolly good Christmas
Get back to that packing – no time to miss

Tops, trousers, present for Mum
“What's that on this top? Surely not gum?”
Holy crap is nothing clean?
Count to 10 and pack some jeans.

Get the camera and charge the battery
don't think of OH, he deserves no flattery.
In fact he deserves untold wrath
for not helping to get the kids in the bath.

Nor make them dinner, help with their clothes
not even make them cheese on toast.
Waste of space at this time of year,
he'd rather go out, grab a few beers.

Before he left I asked for his clothes
What he thinks he'll wear, nobody knows.
He left me jeans, a shirt and 2 tops!
No underpants, t-shirts or socks!

I should pack his stuff just as he left it
and see if that keeps warm his delicate bits,
but I'd like to be organised, tidy and calm
so more vino – it's like a soothing balm.

Check-in for hire car, can't lose that
back on-line to print out those facts.
One more wine to keep me sane,
will soon be dreaming I'm on that plane.

What have I forgotten or left behind?
Shit – fridge is full, I must have been blind.
More stuff to pack and stuff for the neighbour
Cheese in the case and milk down the drainer.

Anything else or can I relax?
Most things are done and no thanks to Max.
Perhaps it's best he buggered off
Coz I know what I'm doing and I'm better off (without him).

And I know for fact that tomorrow he'll say,
'Yeah, we're well on our way,
holiday relaxation and Guinness galore!”
And it will take all my strength not to smash his face into the floor !
