I am a gemmologist, have lived full time 14 months in Jaipur, Rajasthan plus 7 years in Bangkok previously. Everybody seems to be going the other way but I am thinking about trying my hand back in Zim. Had a few experiences back in Africa, most recently prospecting in Uganda 2 years ago but didnt work out. Hope to get some info and just say hello to fellow expats.

Hello, I'm Adam
I'm from the UK studying theology in Cape Town with my wife (who is Zimbabwean). We've been here since January 2012, living in a foreign land can be confusing at times. Hoping to use this forum to learn from other's experiences and hopefully help others too.

Helo to you both and welcome to BE :welcome::welcome:

Hi Harry,

Welcome to BE.

When do you move to Nairobi?

Hi Sue,
I was hoping to be living in Nairobi for November but I feel this may be pushed to Dec 12 or Jan 13, which I do not mind as I have a lot to sort out, for Nairobi I need to find accommodation etc. it would be nice to get some help from some locals that may be out there , plus it would be good to know where if and where our Brits hang out if there is such a place.

Thank you.

Re: Introduce yourself before posting

Hi,

I finished university in July and somehow I've ended up doing an internship at start up incubator company. I am currently working on a venture in Lagos (Nigeria).

TBH wasn't much of a shock since two months earlier I had been doing an internship in the Philippines for the same company (but a different venture). My parents weren't completely happy for me leaving and coming here. It seems that once in Lagos you're stuck in Lagos. Traffic and the roads are bad, and domestic flights are expensive (plus half the country is a no go zone)

I want to visit some of the rainforesty type places and see some wildlife but as far as I know they are all located in the north.

Currently located in Lekki Phase 1, I can't really see that much to do. Perhaps if some one is here they can help me out that would be great.

Where do all the expats hang out and what sort of activities can expats do here? (London prices for Nigerian trained chefs )

Hello Everyone!

I am a female British Citizen who used to live in Africa. I got married there and had a son with hubby. We are still married though I now reside in UK.

Hi ;)
I'm considering moving to Lagos to teach in an International school. What kind of salary should I expect?

Hi, I'm Rublkyu,
an English teacher interested in working at an International school in Nigeria - in Lagos, to be precise. What kind of salary is typical for teachers there?
Also, what's life like for female ex-pats in Lagos?

Doing as requested - introducing myself before posting.

Born and grew up in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), "took the gap" to South Africa during the latter part of the bush war; moved to Australia in mid-'80s. Spent most of the last decade teaching in China. Now back in Oz. Still a British citizen!

Wish I'd found this forum while in China. Am here now because I'm interested in discussion re the Oscar Pistorius tragedy.
