I've just received an offer to work in Tanzania for a couple of years, and have decided to accept. Up to now, I've lived in the UK my whole life, and have been based in London for the last 13 years.

Are there any forummers based in Tanzania that are able to offer advice on living out there, moving, and all sorts of general stuff?

I've got about 3 months to go before I'll be starting in the new job, and at the moment, this doesn't seem like nearly enough time to get everything organised!

@laserspewpewpew trust Tanzania to be great. by the way i also advise you move your UK pension into an offshore trust for tax efficiency

As a gentle reminder to all, the forum should not be used for marketing or advertising your own business. Free advice and opinion is always welcome, but BE cannot be used for selling your own services or products. If in doubt, the site rules can be found at the top of the page.

Hello All,

Just wanted to say hello.
My other half (Canadian) and I live in Scotland, but are currently waiting for my visa application to come through as he wants to go back home and, ideally, would prefer to take me with :)

We have found the forums very useful while filling out forms and organising our stuff and I thought it was time to make my relationship with this site "official".

Thanks for all the help you unknowingly provided us with.

Hi!

I wanted to say hello before posting. I'm from the UK and am currently based in New York but am trying to move to South Africa! I've spent a lot of time on the USA forums so hope to get to know you guys as well!

Welcome - you know up you're posting in Africa? That's a long way from Canada. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum, nice to have you here. Feel free to ask any questions. It's a big cultural change from the U.S. to South Africa, it'll be an interesting experience for sure.

Hello all

My wife and I have lived in Johannesburg for over 30 years, except for three and a half years back in UK but we couldn't settle there.

Despite the perceptions we have a good life here, it's a tough place but the negatives are outweighed by the positives. We'll probably head for somewhere like Spain for a bit of a less edgy retirement.

Regards
Geoff

Hi There - I was born in Northern Rhodesia in '61. From what I understand my parents (originally from South Africa) were British Citizens at the time. I have no British documentation and currently have South African citizenship. From what I've read I'm in same situation as quite a few folk who have posted over the past few years. Hopefully your experience will help us navigate the waters that lie ahead.

BN5563 - if you are still around, can you repost your experience? It sounds like we have a lot in common with regards from where we started. Thanks!

I've just looked that forum member up and they've not visited the forum for nearly 3 years, so I doubt very much that they'll see this post.

Once you've got a few more posts under your belt, you could try PM'ing them though.

Good luck.

Hello!

British by birth nearly 5 decades ago, spent all my youth in Harare & returned to UK in late 80's. I've been back a few times, have travelled around Africa with a backpack a lot & had some amazing experiences... but now...

... now I'm thinking about returning to Zim for good..!

& that's what brought me to this place!

Just to say Hi,
I am new to this site, considering retirement options. I will declare my role as a pension specialist, but WILL NOT approach anyone on this forum. I am a blues guitarist with designs to move to Spain.

I await ant comments

Kind regards

John

Oh thanks very much indeed. The person above me has just posted about Spain, & I am a big fan, have been many times. I was once a hardcore raver, don't you know, & I've been to Ibiza four times & all over the Costas a few times. Very nice part of the world, laid back, cool people. There is some fascism, but for 320 days of sunshine a year, who cares..? lol
