Somebody told me yesterday that they "don't celebrate Halloween"

Is it just an hilariously prim way of saying "I can't be arsed with costumes and candy", or does it mean something more??

Depends who said it. If it came from some religious wingnut then they might have an ideological objection to Halloween been a pagan festival, but otherwise they just can't be ärsed. .... A church near us has a "family oriented celebration" on 10/31, featuring a "Hallelujah House", as opposed to a haunted one.

It's a whole holiday devoted to consuming candy. What's not to like about it? ..... Apart from the fact that it is mostly foul-tasting American candy.

One feels one would have got a good kicking for saying something as daft as that in our day.

Makes me cringe...

(I aspire to be Victor Meldrew....my hero.)

On that note, with my business I've been getting an increase in spam phone calls.

I'm good at recognizing them and greeting the caller with a
'GO SCREW YOURSELF!' before they can speak...it's quite cathartic.

or I give them my credit card, one of those new European numbers I tell them

1111 0101 0000 00 F! U!

Banks.

I went into a bank today for the first time in about 2 years.

The lender for my new truck happens to be the bank I have my mortgage with, and I consequently have a checking account with. So I went in, because there is a branch near my office, to set up auto pay. I got the receptionist. She fumbled around in the 'puter and printed a form, hand wrote in the details from my loan letter and had me check everything and sign, faxed it to the loan dept, twice (busy first time) and sent me on my way. 30 mins.

I could have called the 1-800 number or gone online and done it in 5 mins. Maybe.

ps I work for a bank.

I dislike Halloween. I certainly can't be arsed with costumes, and would prefer not to give an already over-stuffed populace even more candy. Dressing up as an adult seems silly to me - I'm not going to wear a costume to go to work, that's for sure.

But if others want to enjoy it, good for them. Kids love it and I'm all for happy kids ... I just don't enjoy it myself.

Apparently comes from European origins.

Still haven't figured this one out.

I eat frozen TV dinners "meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy", "stuffed green peppers with ground beef", "beef, potatoes, and vegetables with gravy", and "pot roast with potatoes, vegetables, and gravy" when I'm on a diet.

I always thought that beef, potatoes, and gravy were high in calories, but if I get the same thing but instead with turkey or chicken, the portions would be smaller and the gravy bland. So I can't figure out how they make beef and tasty gravy with so few calories and larger servings.

You are probably thinking I'm reading the labels wrong or the manufacturers are labeling incorrectly but I also eat Hebrew National 97% fat free beef franks at 45 calories but if I switch to turkey or chicken, the calories will be 2x-3x times more.

I know that turkey and chicken are healthier than beef but when I'm trying to lose weight, I often eat beef to fill me up.
