What do you NOT like about living in Canada
#181
I liked the social atmosphere around pub culture in England to a certain extent. It was no big deal to go to the pub with workmates at lunch or afterwork. Whereas here it rarely happens as there are few pubs and I find people can be really picky about who they socialise with at work.

Ola,
Slightly cheating here as i've not actually been yet. I'm currently on a stealth Internet fact gathering mission while i sit in my humble Scottish lair awaiting return of news from bunac.
After reading this thread im not put off. Possibly the opposite, It seams like theres a fair bit of romanticizing about the uk, a bit like you would an old flame.
In the same sense, i've been looking at the pretty pictures getting myself all hot and bothered as one would over a potential new filly and having stumbled over this topics like finding out all there manky habits beforehand.
To summarize; If cheese, bricks and crap tv is all i have to worry about, id probably still bang it.

I will echo the above and say that I find the standard of driving is poor. Im a trucker so have to deal with it every day. It varies - Toronto is like London..impatient and drive like idiots on the hwy..120kph three feet from the car in front.
Maritimers seem to not know what day it is let alone if they want to turn, merge, overtake etc they are in a world of there own and seem to lack hazard perception
Quebecers should not even be allowed to own a car let alone drive it!!
Mobile, TV, Internet and Beer are a rip off
'I dont know' seems to be a perfectly acceptable answer here at work. It seems like nobody wants to take responsibilty and be proactive as if they are scared of something being their fault and in the meantime nothing gets done.
They also seem to have a much more god fearing attitude to management as well - It seems they think that they will be struck down if they go against anything that powers that be have decreed!!
Rubbish bacon rubbish TV
Price of chicken and Mushrooms
Lack of baked savories I miss proper pies
The French

If this is all I have to worry about in Canada it seems very trivial and British indeed.
Pronounciation? Maybe you haven't been to 90 percent of england but even in my home town which is peaceful and prosperous enough I still hear
Fack off
Shuttap
Innit
on a regular basis if I venture out. "wadder" is minor in comparison to the rape of the english language by Englishmen and women of today.
Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, all of the south west, Scotland, the Welsh, Irish, Sheffield and London - all bastardise the english language every day. I find it amazing that people would complain about the pronounciation of water in a country 2000 miles away. Did these people only live in the home counties?

Here too. But that's comfortably familiar rather than something to complain about.

In Toronto at least the cheese complaint doesn't stand - go to the St Lawrence Market and you'll find more types of cheese than you can count. It is a bit pricey on the whole but there's certainly no availability issue that I've spotted. Metro also stocks pretty much all the types of cheese I could want.
Is this something that varies a lot by city/province?

Yes... though I'm guessing it's likely more of an issue of not knowing where to find quality cheese (rather than it simply not existing). Often you have to visit the higher-priced speciality markets (outside of the run-of-the-mill supermarkets) if you're trying to seek the quality/variety of cheese that you'd be used to in the UK. Of course, those higher-priced speciality markets are often only found in urban areas. If you're living in small-town Canada, you're probably hooped!

CHEESE.....
.... is also expensive in Vancouver (unless of the massive, processed, rubber brick variety).
But frankly, if such a thing was to become the basis for my determining the quality of my life or the country in which i live, i would want to kill myself.
