Go to an "ice" hockey match in the UK and cringe when Joe Bloggs gets "2 minutes for high sticks" and people yell "hand ball" when the puck hits a player's glove

My wife pronounces the H in Herb

Although i do agree with your sentiment. I'm pig sick of people from the Middle East not pronouncing their H's.

In Toronto at least the cheese complaint doesn't stand - go to the St Lawrence Market and you'll find more types of cheese than you can count. It is a bit pricey on the whole but there's certainly no availability issue that I've spotted. Metro also stocks pretty much all the types of cheese I could want.

Is this something that varies a lot by city/province?

I hate how my kids now say 'wader' instead of water.
I rather like the Canadian accent myself. It's very different from the US one once you get used to it.

Maths is an abbreviation of mathematics. Math is an even shorter abbreviation of mathematics. Either can be singular or plural.

If you're comparing Lousiana and Newfoundland, perhaps, but, in my vast experience, neither Canadians nor Americans can tell which country most people come from. Canadians do not often say "aboot".

I've met a few that do talk like that - mainly older people. Mostly what I hear in Vancouver is that vacant sounding west coast accent like you would expect from paris hilton.

I know the manner of speaking. I think that, with a few exceptions (Brooklyn, Ottawa Valley, for example) accents go in north-south bands. I find it very difficult to tell, say, Maine from New Brunswick or BC from Washington.

The one thing I didn't like about Britain was the buying the round culture at Pubs. I am not a big drinker. Actually I quite enjoy having one small glass of wine and that is it. However whenever I went out to a Pub in the UK I was having to buy a round for everyone! So even though I only wanted to have one drink I would have to pay for about 8 people. I also noticed that people drank more as a result - they wanted to get their monies worth. Needless to say I started to avoid Friday afternoon drinks-too many drunken workmates and too expensive.
I liked the social atmosphere around pub culture in England to a certain extent. It was no big deal to go to the pub with workmates at lunch or afterwork. Whereas here it rarely happens as there are few pubs and I find people can be really picky about who they socialise with at work.

In NS we have 'Petes Frootique' which sells a good variety of cheese, it's gorgeous but expensive!

It's not quite 'aboot' or 'hoose' but it is different. We see Americans round here, maybe tis cos they are wealthy but the seem more polished than the locals.
