There's surely hope for you yet. My DH used to hate it, grew to tolerate it, and these days he actually loves it.

PS: They don't actually throw the baby in the fire - but it is a crucial bit of information relayed by Azucena as she tells of how she threw her own baby in the fire by mistake, instead of the Count's son whom she had meant to BBQ in revenge for her own mother's death at the stake.
Did I mention that it is a completely ludicrous tale?
But the music - wow!

Also, what was your greatest culture/lifestyle shock?

Truth is depends on how you got here.
A) Escaped poverty or violence from a 3rd or 4th World country, fantastic "USA is GREAT" Especially if you got here legally.
B) Came here as a spouse (You from 1st World Country, plenty to eat, car to drive, your own house, NHS) of USC, one of you is probably not as a happy as you make out. Then again, probably impossible for you both to be where you really want to be. The non USC, unable to find work or descent paying yob (Unhappy camper). USC, has low paying yob, little or no medical Insurance. "What we do for love."
C) You arrived on one of the various business visa's, you have sold your house, bought or invested in a small business, may have left the older children at home (No Visa's for them), whoops one of you gets sick (Wow, Hospitals & Doctors are all crooks), low and behold the store or office you bought, had 3 sets of books, you only saw one. "Greener grass and dreams"
D) You big time executive, super broker, your Fortune 500 company, says "You are off to the USA". Your furniture is packed for you, of course you arrive by 1st class flight, a company chauffeur greets you at the airport, they put you and your family up in a 5 star hotel, they move you to a company Condo, they supply you with a car, they have a 5 star relocation corp. find you a 5 bedroom house (With pool & Pink Flamingo’s), they help you find schools, they give you Empire Blue Cross supadupa medical insurance, they fly you home every few months (1st class of course). Sorry forgot the $350k + bonuses + membership to the "Country Club". Wife, joins the Pimms # 1 club, screws the pool boy.
Did I miss anything, it all depends on whom or when you ask? Personally, if you don’t mind the wife or the husband screwing (Hope I don’t get banned for saying that word twice) the pool boy (Person), then “D†is obviously a dawdle. No comparison, to the rest. In fact it’s just a long business trip (Vacation), maybe 2 -3 years & then home.
Living the dream or the nightmare?
Reg. Frank R.
Ps. I now have 2 pools, 2 tennis courts & a hot tub.
