I asked him which base, to which he replies RAF Croughton. Which is very very unusual as the base is tiny, it doesn't even have planes on it (unless you count the 2 on display at the front gate!)!!! I told him that's where we were based for 5 years & we talked about it for a while! I was gob smacked that he knew everything I was talking about, it was actually very cool.
However, he didn't ask me if I knew so & so!!!

For me it was meeting my American husband 16 years ago in Britain and moving with him. If it had not been for that chance meeting my life would be so incredibly different right now and I would probably still be living in Britain.
Hell if someone would have told me sooner that I an ugly mug like me could get away with just having a British accent I'd have been here sooner, amen to USA chicks.

Yes, most of the people who need forums like this want to go home. Those of us who are doing well and like it here usually don't bother with these things, so I'm adding a bit of balance.
I came here in the early 90's. Recession, 14% mortgage rates, 10% inflation. Remember? Company I worked for fell apart and almost went bankrupt. I needed a fresh start, and I ended up in Florida, US citizen now. Never going back. My relatives are always coming over and saying how crap things are in the UK. Got a bunch of friends who are retiring early form UK and spending as much time as possible in Florida. That's got the tell you something.
