Anyway can we just reclaim "sandwich" and say "san-ditch", I'm sure it's supposed to be pronounced that way. Perhaps someone can fill me in on the etymology of the word.

Apparently Earl Sandwich came up with it around 1770, so that's plenty of time for Americans to bugger it up and for it to be pronounced incorrectly elsewhere.

I'd never realised, there were so many ways to pronouce "sandwich". ..... I think my version is somewhere between "sand-wich" and "sand-widge", and if anything, closer to the latter.

I think mine is probably more towards the latter, although my "d" is also tending towards being silent

But under no circumstances whatsoever will it ever be sammich or even worse, sammie!
