Anyway can we just reclaim "sandwich" and say "san-ditch", I'm sure it's supposed to be pronounced that way. Perhaps someone can fill me in on the etymology of the word.
Apparently Earl Sandwich came up with it around 1770, so that's plenty of time for Americans to bugger it up and for it to be pronounced incorrectly elsewhere.
