However I did select flying out on Thanksgiving and returning on 12/01/2007.
However seeing as thanksgiving means totally diddly squat to the OH and I we might as well fly when everyone else is over eating with their families here and hopefully the airports will not be so busy.

They just opened up that direct route from Bradley to Amsterdam and are just basically putting trying to fill the plane right now.

Sadly it's either them or Northwest if you want to fly direct from Detroit, and with a 3 year old getting a connecting flight is something to avoid if possible. But at least the Video On Demand BA have on the 767's which cover the DTW-LHR route is jolly good fun.

there was a rumor of Northwest flying direct to Manchester on a 757 out of DTW...... they decided to fly to Brussels and Dusseldorf instead...

Air France to BHX? That's par for the course and, as far as the OH and I are concerned, never to be tried again!
At Christmas they not only managed to destroy the wife's suitcase (that was on the way back, on the way they just left it on the tarmac for 4 hours in the rain at CDG soaking up the French precipitation - we could see it from the plane!) but also to lose a hand bag and a number of other items from the suitcase. Air France's answer when we asked for compensation - we cannot give you any compensation for anything without the original proof of purchase! So if you're ever going to fly with them, make sure you carry receipts for your entire worldly belongings!!
The OH flew Northworst from Charlottesville - Detroit, to Schiphol, to BHX at the weekend and said it wasn't too bad at all - except the puddle jumper from CHO to Detroit. And only $60 more than flying into Heathrow - saving me a trip to London to get her.

Someone I know from Stockport, heard the rumour about flights from Detroit-Manchester too. I wondered what had become of it. It seems like the flights to the UK from Detroit are nearly always full though, and a Manchester flight actually sounds like a good idea.

Nope it was Air France from Chicago to CDG. My main reason for loving the Schippol to BHX flight is that they serve a really nice cheese sandwich

Do they not think of Detroit to the UK routes as being very popular then? The flights alaways seem to be pretty full whenever we've done it.

Yep thats the routes and seeing as BDL is a 20 min drive from my house it certainly knocks the socks off driving to NY or Boston. I dont mind changing / waiting in Amsterdam as they have lots of watering holes. For me its the most convenient route.
