I have also noticed that a lot of Americans cannot comprehend "double" as in spelling out a name L Y double N E. I spelt it that way to one lady on the phone and she read it back as "LYWE".
A lot will also say "one time" as opposed to once.
My other pet peeves are:

Also the use of forty seven hundred dollars rather than four thousand seven hundred. Does anyone know why the Americans will refer to wood as a 2 x 4 whereas in England we call it a 4 x 2.
