thanks to all the replies so far, thinking of using xoom.com, mainly as its a one off smaller payment, and i need the 3rd party to use a bank in USA..

We have accounts with Citibank Global Banking in the UK and use Citibank here in the USA. I can transfer funds in seconds at no charge. Love it!!

Used XE Trade a couple of times a month for the last year. Never had a problem!
