Clothes are tax free in Mass, which is always a nice surprise since I usually forget.

A few other random things are tax free too:

Tax Exempt Items in Mass

And if all that fails, drive to New Hampshire

I live in Southern New Hampshire. Tax is a dirty word. No sales or income taxes here. Lowest tax burden bar Alaska.

We pay $9,500 on a tad over 4,000 sq ft.

There was a thread on property taxes a while back. Whilst some were cheaper many were comparable. NJ seemed eye-poppingly expensive!

We were in Macy's yesterday and there were a group of old girls from Texas. They make a yearly trip to NH for the cheap shopping.

The life style here is fantastic. It is regularly listed as one of the top places to live in the us.

All in all we will stomach the property taxes! Whenever we go into Mass (which is fairly often) it strikes us as being a tad more expensive.

The wifes company has been taken over 2 months ago from Cambridge. After a round of redundancies we've been ashorsed that the office here is safe (its has a long lease and lots of space) but that's a hell of a commute if they move lock stock and barrel. The house prices in the nice bits of Mass are also through the roof.....if you'll pardon the pun.

Lastly, after three years I've learnt to not speak to the locals about politics. They generally make Enoch Powell seem like a memer of Red Wedge.
