Default State Sales Tax?

So how much is your sales tax these days?

Just noticed quite a few people roaming around trying to get people to sign petitions to reduce the state of MA sales tax, which I don't think is all that bad. It's 6.25% at the moment.

They could do with ditching it on second hand sales though, especially cars, but I don't see that happening

It's county-by-county in Ohio. Cuyahoga County is 7.75%

I we can find merchandise we want in Lake County or Lorain County it's only 6.25%.

I have absolutely no idea what it is here in Texas... guess I should pay more attention when shopping...

One of the reasons VAT is considered by some to be more economically "efficient".

County by County. The city by city table is used to figure out what county the city is in.

To make the point I just posted before. The rate for LA County is 9.75% -- whether you are in Los Angeles [like yours truly], Calabasas, Long Beach or Lancaster.

I don't think this is quite correct. Certain cities have added their own taxes:

8.25% here in Plano, TX.

6.25% is state-wide. 2% is local, but is basically the same over most of North Texas.

No - check the entries for, say, Santa Cruz County here and you will find rates ranging from 9.00% in Aptos to 9.50% in the city of Santa Cruz itself.
