Are there "statutes of limitations" on stuff like this in the UK, like you find in the US? She could go on the lamb until the heat is off.
Dangerous game.

Credit agencies can sell debts internationally and there is no requirement for a company to write a debt off, although they *may* if they decide it's not worth chasing. Of course while there is no debtors gaol anymore it can turn up and bite you later on.

One wonders why somebody would seek advice on a public board to comit an act that is best immoral and at worst illegal.

this is NOT the case if the person goes into bankruptcy within the UK, that debt is written off within the UK and at that point becomes an insurance claim. A company having bought that debt to recover in a different country then has to abide by the bankruptcy in the original country.

You guys are assholes sometimes.

someone comes on here asking for advice and you in your infinite wisdom act as judge and jury in what can only be called a witchhunt.

if the OP wants to ACTUAL Advice in this area PM me, I've been through it and know what its like.

ahh.. the joys of international finance... almost all large sums of money are insured. This loan may or may not be a large sum in itself but it definitely came from a large sum probably borrowed from a large parent fund with a frontloaded interest in the form of insurance.
