Move to Seattle? Your thoughts?

Hey WARPed,
Well, I told myself I wasn't going to post anymore on here because I'm not British (I went to Uni in England and was living there until a week ago), so I didn't think anybody would be too keen on my popping in. But I lived in a tiny town in the PNW called Anacortes for 14 years before I moved to England, so I wanted to tell you a bit about it...though it seems like everybody else has that taken care of.

Sorry if this all sounds slightly disconnected. If you want to know more about the area, don't hesitate to ask. And like someone suggested, go for a visit. That's the best way to be able to tell if you really like a place or not. May is a lovely time to visit, and the weather should be nice. The most important thing is that you and your wife need to be happy. You've got to find a place where you feel like you fit in and can connect with the people, where there are opportunities for you both to work, and where you'll ultimately find comfort and happiness.
Best of luck in making your decision,
~Jen

Once the trip is booked I'll be sure to bug everyone who has posted here for ideas on what to see and where to go to get the very best feel for the area we possibly can, so don't be a stranger. I see no reason why you wouldn't be welcome here.

I think the Brits appreciate the Americans who post here, some are spouces of Brits, some have lives in the UK, whatever the reason, it is good for us Brits to have feedback through American eyes. Just dont get too pissed off with us when we go in for some America-bashing, sometimes this just feels like a safe place to do it when we are having a bad day.

Good luck with your trip and hope you can convince the wifey to move out there!

OH and I are looking at Portland since he wants to study at a uni there. While we do still yo-yo a bit, I think ultimately we are heading out that way once we can take care of our current financial probs.

In reality, though, I love Portland: given my druthers, my choice of cities to live in in North America would be, in order:
- Vancouver, BC
- Portland
- San Francisco
- Seattle

We have learnt to 'put up' with the eccentricities (love that word
) of the natives on BE and in our daily lives (with a few exceptions
) Please keep posting and offering help and advice, I loved reading your description of the PNW, and would love to think that one day we could end up there too

Couldn't agree more. We Brits need to be able to get the experience of everyone that has lived in the places we are traveling/moving too, there is nothing that can replace that

Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of gripes too; but the countryside isn't one. The PNW certainly does have it all.
Hope you get to move here soon, someday, too.

Just last night my husband and I went out to dinner. We were sat at a beachside restaurant on the deck there, watching an incredible sunset across the water, (colours amazing) my husband said, if we went on a vacation and saw this, we'd say how wonderful it must be to live there - and we do! The beach is literally minutes away, I can see both the mountains in Canada and Mt. Baker from my garden. I try not to let a day go by when I don't appreciate it all. I would never have believed that I would end up in such a beautiful place.

[QUOTE=WARPed;8802567]Sounds wonderful. I'm spoilt for beach and sunsets here of course but usually it is too damn hot or humid to enjoy. I know you are near the Canadian boarder but what area? Not asking for specifics of course but it would be good to Google your surroundings. No problem if you don't want to say.

Sure. I have sent you a message
