Move to Seattle? Your thoughts?

Its funny you mention that, as I find myself in a situation where I no longer want to pursue an online Bachelors degree I am enrolled in, as it has too much "General Education" and "Management" courses and zero hands on skills relevant to my database/development IT career. Therefore I am seriously considering rolling back to an online Computer Programming and DB AS degree from a local community college, as there are far more hands on classes that will equip me with more relevant skills for my job. Not to mention the savings. I am hoping that this AS degree, my experience and certs will be sufficient in getting a job, as me and the missus are seriously considering a move to somewhere in the PNW as soon as we can sell our house.

Wonderful! We do have many Ospreys around where I live and it is wonderful to watch them skimming the bayou, plucking fish out as they go. We also have many Herons. Smaller birds are few and far between due to proximity to water and I guess the lack of many tress in Pinellas county! We also have some nesting Bald Eagles in the area but I've yet to see one myself?

It was your prior thread regarding dissolution of the current state of political affairs and the suggestions to you of moving to a blue state that also prompted this avenue of investigation for me. Maybe see you there on day.

Hi everyone,
I am a bit of a lurker usually as my great friend (and brother-inlaw WARPed tends to be the poster for the family). Like WARPed I am looking to get out of Florida (for many of the same reasons). While the PNW definitely appeals to me, my wonderful wife (sister of WARped) is seriously affected by gloomy grey weather (think British winters). A couple of people mentioned Spokane in their posts. I had read that it's really sunny over that way. Nettlebed mentioned "... I couldn't stand the climate." Nettlebed, are you referring to the cold winters in Spokane?
Also does anyone have opinions/experience about/of Yakima?
Peace.

But if you want to see pictures of bald eagles a-plenty, google for Comox BC.
It's just north of Nanaimo, and the local residents were worried about eagles attacking pets when the salmon were scarce, so they started putting food out.
Result? This:

This has been my concern when looking at all the degree options out there. I'm considering from Physics, Electrical Engineering or staying close to my career so far (which I don't really like anymore) and doing Computer Science. The AS's seem to have much less general requirements and lots more relevant knowledge, but, it worries me that I many companies will still just skip over my resume, going straight for the BAs, BSs and MBAs and it will have been a wasted effort. Even at only 32 I'm aware that time is not on my side.
Take a look at the list of jobs I posted earlier, and if any interest you, PM me.
I can't promise anything, but like I said, we have hundreds of open positions right now.

I thought you were having a laugh with photoshop when I saw that picture. THEN I googled it!
Unreal.

I went to Phoenix in summer a few years back. While it was like a blast furnace, I found 110 degrees in Phoenix far more bearable than 90 degrees in FL. Of course, I was on holiday which may have had some influence.
I think WARPed and I need to go on a fact-finding trip.

Hello from south of Seattle. We moved here 5 years ago in May, without my husband having employment (very, very scary time indeed....
) However, my husband got lucky and signed on with a recruitment agency, which at the time had a long term contract with AT&T and eventually became employed with them. He worked for BT in the UK.
We occasionally talk about how scary that time was (our nest egg was dwindling fast) but in the end it worked out very well for us. My husband really enjoys the weather and people here. I'm originally from Southern California and I can't say that I overly love it here, but its home.
Wish you the best of luck in finding where you want to be. Its not always easy.

Definitely better than the summers I spent in NJ and NY.
Also, I've been in Wadi Halfa in 122 F heat, and I'm only exaggerating slightly when I say that was preferable to the 95 F heat I had in Jacksonville once.

That is a long post! Didn't look that big in Word!
