I guess I better get cracking on sorting something out! I have 3 Mothers day type cards to get. My mum, step mum and mother in law. I think on the US Mothers Day I shall by cards and keep them for next year. Of course I will probably forget them! Why is the date for Mothers Day different in the UK and US?

My mum will actually be staying with me on 14th March!

Any ideas as to what I should do to make up for all the other years I didn't send a card? (NB we'll be starting the day in Boston and finishing up at home as I'm dragging her and Mr tonrob senior to Boston for the 6 Nations that weekend).

It has been on the fourth Sunday of Lent since at least the 16th Century (which is why the date moves around each year as it's tied to the Easter holidays).

The correct name for it in the UK is 'Mothering Sunday':

Yes it's very informative, it was originally to do with the mother church if I remember and not 'Mums'.

Yep. In the US, it's not technically a religious holiday, more of a Hallmark holiday, like Father's Day. So they decided to choose sometime in May instead.
