Happy trails on the Appalachians.

Sorry, didn't mean to be rude - I think I must have been on "The Trail" when your question was posted. Better late than never, I hope.

Yes, she is a Lab, but not like a Lab (she doesn't retrieve, nor chew). As for hunting, I don't think she has a hunting bone in her body. As we walked the Trail a huge male deer ran straight across in front of us, not 20 feet ahead. I immediately called "LEAVE IT!" and she didn't budge. I was very proud that she responded to my call, until one of my hiking partners pointed out she was probably literally scared stiff of the thing (it WAS huge)!

She looks like a typical Tennessee hunting Labrador (sleek, fast, tremendously fit), but I was glad that she didn't chase the sheep when we lived in Scotland, as the farmers there are likely to shoot any out of control dog that worries their sheep, especially during lambing season (and probably fair enough, too).

I thought you had to be a hoary Yorkshireman with trousers tied at the bottom with string to keep ferrets?

lol! My husband thought the same thing. I kept trying to tell him that in the US its mostly women that have ferrets, but he still thinks "redneck!" at the thought of them. He was a bit afraid of them at first, presumably because he's only seen them bite people, but he's since come around to cuddling them and calling them pet names.

According to the Guardian, they are the "premier" pet of choice for young childless couples! (How dare they say my ferrets dont count as my children! )

This is our other mutt called Kensington. This photo was taken just after he was groomed with a very dangerous powershaver!! We asked for his coat to be short because of the heat! Would you believe he is usually a very fine looking Golden Retriever?? Poor dog!
