Now, this is in Texas at HEB, a good but not high-end grocery store, and it includes some wine and beer and a few other things that aren't essential. Even shopping at Walmart and buying special offers, though, I can't imagine you can cater for 5 for a month for $500.

Please have the perks excluded and get back with a number, I can
have upper number estimated based on yours spendings ...

600 quid (pounds) would be $900-1000

I was given a quote of 600 quid (monthly).

Groceries are way more expensive in the US, if you're spending 600 quid in the UK, you'll be looking at $1k minimum in the US.

Electric I would estimate at $200-250, you dont pay water if you rent.

This is not what i'm seeing, and I'm not even talking about weekly specials:
mySupermarket - Compare Prices - Shop Online - Save Money
have you been to Uk recently?

That may, or may not be true. Most rented property in my neck of the woods does NOT include water. ..... In apartments it may be true?

The things that arent on the weekly specials are the things that add up quickly, eg a loaf of bread can cost $3-4, and will taste like crap. a Gallon of milk is $4 etc

Meat is also expensive, other than chicken which can be reasonable.

Is this just for tv, lights, pc and so on? Is this including heating and air-condition?
Estimate for 5 people I guess?

That works out about the same then. Pound/Dollar 'fair value' is about 1.6 when you take account of wages and COL.

Yeah it's a bit big. About 3,000 sq ft. I'm sort of looking forward to moving back to England, and buying a really tiny new build ... you know, the kind where the second bedroom is actually too small for a bed. And the garden is 30ft by 15ft instead of 5 acres ...

Agreed, that was a like for like conversion. He's estimating they'll pay $500 in the US
