How much is enough – Northeast

Re: How much is enough – Northeast
The folks have one that heats most of the house but they also have propane for the back room and oil for forced air through the place but they don't use that as much as the wood stove, except over night and when they're not in. The grand mother has a fire place and a stove in the living room which heats the house and a oil furnace that's mostly back up heat and over night stuff.
Depending on the wood, those things do put out a lot of heat and a couple fans in some door ways can be very affective at pushing heat around.
Plus you can put a pot on to stew up some soup all day long, or other stew type things.
Makes it easier to clean than a empty fireplace too.

Sounds like they've got a juggling act on with all those power sources! We just have electric for cooling and gas for heat, but unfortunately it is all ducted air round here which I loathe with a vengeance. Much preferred the old radiator systems we had in the houses in the UK.
Wood stove, for the folks is essentially free at the moment, just the labour involved in sorting the wood and a bit more maintenance required but it keeps the place nice and warm for hours even when closed up at the end of the night before bed.
