No points for humor or originality, I'm afraid!

Maybe you have to be American to see the humour in it for I did laugh out loud reading it.

In the same vein I have a difficult time seeing the humour in much of the British postings aimed at making one giggle.

Karma for Jabba1

The tone of the OP's post was one requesting sincere responses to her questions/dilemma.

Jabba1's long post was more sarcastic than humorous. Don't forget, sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

Rete may have found it funny but is it that funny in context to the OP's post? I personally don't think so.

It was slapstick and ostentatiously snide. But it isn't a disgraceful attempt. The second sentence, for example, exhibits multilayered humour which really is quite funny. It's unfortunate that it was written as one long paragraph which made it hard to digest.

That would be my critique, but I'm not a professional comedian.

I suppose you'd think I was fibbing if I told you I wrote it myself. Truth be told though, I did borrow a bit from other posts. I didn't cut and paste mind you, I just re-worded much of what had already been posted in other threads.

After re-reading it however, it does come across as bit more harsh than I had intended. My apologies if it offended anyone.

Actually, I found it amusing as well, and I'm not American, Rete.

Of course from mere words in writing one never really knows the intent it was posted with, but with the smilies at the end and parts like the quote above, I read a sort of 'tough-love' intention into it.
Of course I can't speak for Leslie, but with the rollercoaster ride she's had in the US maybe it's normal to start thinking that everything is better 'back home'. Maybe the way Jabba worded things is just what someone in her position needed to hear.
Everybody has their own style of saying things. If it was me in Leslie's position I would have appreciated Jabba's contribution, I found it refreshing. What works for one doesn't work for another though. And that's another reason why I personally find nothing wrong with a different, humorous approach.

Leslie,

You have to really follow your heart on this. Don't stay in the US to avoid feeling like 'you failed'. Don't return to the UK because you think everything will come up roses there. But whether you stay or go, leave all doubt behind when you've decided, and go for it 100%.

I wish you much luck, it's a tough decision.

Elaine
