Default USA Retirement - A casual enquiry

All,

I recently spent 3 weeks in the South West & fell in love with the place, so much so that I'm seriously considering buying a place out there with a view to retiring in 5 or 6 years time.

My question is this: What are the chances of obtaining residents status as a retiree? If that's not feasible, are there any restrictions placed on foreign nationals owning holiday homes in the US? What is the maximum time I can spend there on a visitor visa?

I'd like to hear from anyone who has successfully made the move as I'm sure there are a thousand things I have not yet considered.

Many thanks in advance.

Adrian.

there is no retirement visa.
the best bet is a B2 and spend 6 months in and 6 months out of the country.
