how hard is it?

Re: how hard is it?
There are times when I'll read these "How hard is it to get into the US" threads and feel really guilty that I was born here.
Anyway, good luck on your efforts to move over to this side of the pond. And believe me, your gonna need all the luck you can get.

Paul,
It is very hard to get into the US right now. I was lucky. I managed to get a green card in 1992 and now I am a citizen. That was before 9/11 though and things have changed now. The US is closed. Therefore, I would look elsewhere, Oz, Canada, NZ, if you want a new experience. The US is too difficult and you would be wasting your time. Hate to sound pessimistic, but I am just trying to save you a lot of time/money. Good luck with whatever path you decide on!

Should you end up coming over on one of those journalist visas, you need to be careful as your time in the US is entirely dependent on your sponsor. My example comes from a friend who worked for German television in the US. After five years, and a comfortable life and family set up, his boss decided to pull up shop and send him home. He didn't make the steps necessary to transfer from a journalist visa (it has a weird number) to a H1 (skilled visa) or a green card, and boom--has 30 days to leave the US.
Freelance journalists are a dime a dozen over here, I'm sorry to say (no offense). Professional bloggers get more respect (credentials to events, etc) than a freelancer. A carpenter wouldn't have a tough time find a job, but that's once / if you got here.
If you could find a job over there and get 'assigned' to the US by your employer, then you might have more luck on a journalists visa.

Well that would depend on which state you live in...Forget it if its Southern Cal, Texas, Florida etc, too many mexicarno's that do that work....and for alot cheaper price than the white man! Also they are spreading North at an alarming rate, so soon we will be the United States of Mexico.
