Thanks
I had actually planned to go maybe next year or so, then have a baby in a year or so.
Didn't realize I won't be able to work in the USA for maybe 3-4 months, add job hunting, I'd be lucky if I was working in six months...Then to go on maternity leave a year after that??
Funny how things work out for the better, this way I'll be able to have the first six months off with the baby and no worries, and then another 6 months to find a job at my leisure

I took 8 weeks, then went back to work part-time for a while. Again, it wasn't ideal as the job I had wasn't one that easily converted to part-time, but my boss was willing to work with me. The daycare wasn't close to work. I worked in Minneapolis, but lived in a rural area south of St. Paul, which was an hour or so away. However, the daycare was within walking distance from our house and OH worked from home (but did lots of local travel), so he was the one who did the lion's share of taking care of the kids when they were sick, dropping them off at daycare etc. etc. (and did a fantastic job, I might add).
I could not nurse my child at work, only at home. However, being able to pump at work meant that I was able to feed her in the day, albeit indirectly.

Sounds like you know a lot of selfish people (and I guess some would paint all Americans as selfish) but honestly I don't know many people like the ones you describe. This is probably due to the fact that I can't stand people like those you describe.
