UK is exempt from the six month club. Passport only needs to be valid for intended length of stay.

While it might be fine for getting into the US, what nobody has talked about is what happens when she wants to get back in to Canada. Presumably the expired passport would help, but what is the Canadian view on travelling back in with an expired document?

Even an expired CDN passport is proof of CDN citizenship... she can't be refused entry. She must not, however, try to use her UK passport to enter Canada, so she should take her CDN passport with her.
