I disagree with you here and am more in agreement with Imhere.

The average petty criminal is usually not too sharp and quite often owns cheap or imitation firearms which can be unreliable or downright dangerous (to the owner). Aside from that, a street savvy legal firearms owner is more likely to notice odd and unusual behaviors (body language) that suggest bad things about to happen.

For example, that TV show Cops showcases such criminals. They are caught because they are not too bright and have crappy weaponry. They let themselves down before they commit crimes (or get away with it).

Such individuals rarely, I suspect, have attended legitimate shooting classes and fewer probably practise legally (on ranges for example).

That's my 5 cents.

Well yes and no. I think you've missed the point.

The point I was making was that if he's already pulled the gun, then you don't have much of a chance to pull yours if you are carrying. So the mugging will still occur.

If you're street savvy that's great, but you probably would never get to the situation above. Unfortunately, most people aren't, or they just think they are.

Yes criminals are stupid, but pulling a gun and demanding your wallet doesn't take more than a few brain cells.

The mugger will probably be less than 10ft away, at that range he's unlikely to have needed any practice at all.

Surprisingly no! My local Washington Mutual is quite open. Perhaps most banks now have timed safes etc.

Don't tell me, you have it next to your wallet, and you're going to try and pull it out, aim and shoot before the mugger knows what's going on?

I wouldnt put anything next to a gun, thanks.

But no you're right. What I'll do if I get mugged is hand over my wallet, my keys, my wife and anything else valuable I may have with me. If im really lucky they may not shoot me anyway. Even better if I wander around looking like a victim then they may pity on me and leave me alone in the first place.

I've noticed that a lot of people where I live seem to think that when someone wears a bumbag they also carry a gun. As one guy said to my husband, "You've got a gun in there, haven't you?" He then went on to say that his wife was a cop and they all used those bags to carry their gun. He was a bit miffed when my husband said he wasn't a cop and wasn't carrying a gun!

One day we were out, no one was around, and then these two guys appeared from nowhere and began approaching us ... my gut instinct told me we were in for trouble. My husband put his hand just inside the bumbag, the guys looked and then turned tail and ran! At that point I figured having a gun in a bumbag wasn't such a bad thing! ;)
