My vacuum cleaner bit the dust last night, so now I need a new one and I'm thinking about buying a Dyson. Last time I was in UK I heard some complaints about Dyson customer service. Also my parents' Dyson did die after only about two years. The reviews online all seem to be written by people that have owned their Dysons for maybe 2 days so I was hoping I could get some input from people who had owned one for a decent length of time. Are they worth the money? Has anyone had problems with customer service?

I have a Kirby.
It cost $1600 but it has a natty little headlight on the front.
Well worth it imo.

I have the animal and it is just great. Nearly 2 years old and no trouble, think I will keep it!

The problems, if any, will come down to having to substitute the designed electric motor for a 120v model. These heat up more than the 240v models, and are thus less reliable.

I have the purple one too, (the 'animal') and I think it's the mutt's nuts!
I definitely want to buy another Dyson when we move back.
My mother has a Kirby and it weighs a bloody ton! It's alright but I do prefer the Dyson as it's lighter and seems to be, (to me anyway) a lot better at lifting the dirt out of the carpet.

Funny thing, my in-laws have a built in cleaner that my wife swore was the best thing since sliced bread for suction and convenience etc
recently when we sepnt thanksgiving at their gaff, we had cause to use their built in vac (which I have always thought secretly is a crap idea)
wifey told me under her breath that she thought out dyson was a hell of a lot less hassle and had better suction
british innovation: 1
american legacy systems: nil

Had the internal VAC system in our house. Noisy piece of sh*t that couldn't suck a lemon sherbert....
Never used it.... Always planned to connect it to the Hampster Cage and seal up all the ends for the ultimate hampster run
