Re: Dyson Vacuum cleaners
My husband bought our Dyson not too long after I first moved to the UK. So we owned for over 5 years and when we left, I left it with my daughter. She didn't have it 6 months before it was broke. Not quite sure if it was her fault or what.
I seriously wanted another Dyson when we came here, but I can't imagine spending almost $500 for a vaccum cleaner.

Re: Dyson Vacuum cleaners
We saw an ad for a refurbished Dyson DC07 for $250, so we bought it with a 2 year warranty, just in case as refurbs only come with 6 months. Altogether we paid $315 (including tax), but it's superb! I vacuumed the day before with our old piece of crap vacuum, then redid the same area & the amount of dirt left by the other & picked up by the Dyson was phenomenal! Expensive buy, but if it lasts, it's well worth it, no more bags either! Wooohooo!!!
I never thought I'd get so excited about a bloody vacuum cleaner!

We've had one of those purple dysons for about 8 months, it has been and continues to be great.
Has anyone had a go with one of those Roomba jobbies? I can imagine them getting stuck everywhere and having no suction power at all.

Re: Dyson Vacuum cleaners
I had looked at the Dyson for some time but didn't know anyone who had one. Recently a friend of mine bought one of the Dyson range and said how wonderful it was. I said I had considered the "Animal" since I owned two cats. They said it was great for picking up dog hair. On that one recommendation I went out and bought a Dyson Animal. I actually enjoy using it.
To test it out, I thoroughly went over my family room carpet with my Hoover Powerdrive. I then went over it with the Dyson and picked up almost half a cannister of cat fur. I was totally gobsmacked. My neighbor was pretty impressed too. We decided to try it out at his house. He has three indoor cats. First we used his Electrolux vacuum. This is not an over the counter model, but a $750.00 (five years ago) all singing all dancing model. He went over his carpet several times, then we used the Dyson. This time we got over half a cannister of cat fur. He was pretty sick considering how much he had paid for his cleaner all those years ago.
I love it. Not only does it pick up the cat fur but you can see the cat dander in the cannister too. My husband has noticed that there is not that "just vacuumed" smell after I used it. I guess because the filter is more efficient that on other vacuums. It's easy to us. I have even used one attachment to vacuum my mattress and was surprised what that sucked up.
Since I have bought mine two of my friends have bought them and have never looked back. It is certainly worth the money and I wish now I had bought one before.
It is a sad day indeed when I actually admit I enjoy using a vacuum cleaner.

The Ball thingy does make it very easy to manoeuvre and as for it not being self propelled, well with the brushes on, this thing almost pulls me across the carpet. It's great on the hardwood floor too -- my old vac would just blow the dust bunnies around, the Dyson sucks them right up.

It picks up EVERYTHING...... we have 3 large dogs who molt lots just because they like to see if they can cover the entire carpet in dog hair - the dyson deals with it with no worries !

Re: Dyson Vacuum cleaners
We've had our Dyson Animal about three months or so and so far have sucked up enough cat hair to spin enough fibre to knit several sweaters and many pairs of socks.
My cats have a wicked sense of humor and I am sure during the day when we are out they roll around on the carpet making sure the fur gets embedded into it. You can vacuum every day and still manage to pick up a load of it.

I'll add my vote for Dyson too. Bought the animal about 18 months ago- only problem I've had is my kids wanting to borrow it all the time, as their vaccuums just don't do the job properly. Well worth the $500 it cost over here. Just before Christmas I bought the rollerball Dyson to keep one upstairs- that is so easy to use and does a fabulous job ( I also sent away for the childrens dyson, free with purchase of the rollerball)- it arrived christmas eve...soo cute, wonderful toy- my granddaughter loves it.
Errm I bought a Kirby when we were in UK- really disappointed with it. It was the biggest pain in the a$$e..heavy, cumbersome and not THAT efficient- especially not for the price :scared: I gave the darn thing to a friend when we left UK and last time I was over I noticed she was using a Dyson animal.
