This is especially true re wisdom teeth in USA and Canada. In UK you don't remove (because of the minimal risks of nerve damage/GA) unless they are causing problems or very likely to. It's very hard for professions to remain ethical when they gain financially from procedures - you have to hope they care about their reputation enough to not cross the line too much and too often but with those massive student loans to pay off plus those malpractice insurance premiums etc etc it must be very tempting sometimes to come over with a hard sell.

Thumbs up Re: Dentist Question...

I dont know if people are aware but cheap dental insurance can be a good idea.
I have just arranged for insurance for $20.00 a month for someone, covers cleanings and check ups ... the big bonus is that it gives the patient access to the dentist's preferred rate which will save hundreds on a crown - this is with one of the big companies and they are very reputable.

I was treated fantastically... and had a great vacation when I wasn't in the dentist's chair.
I'd definitely do it again!
I would be really interested in getting more information regarding Dental " holidays ."

I hear you can do the same thing with Mexico and Thailand.

He was totally professional.... and a really nice guy, spoke perfect English.
I had it done over 4 years ago, and I've never looked back!!!

I'm not sure I'd get it done in Mexico, but would definitely consider Thailand!

Thank you for the link.

I am not sure what work needs to be done, would it be prudent to have a check up here and then take that information overseas ? I have no dental insurance so it's all out of pocket.

Yes that's exactly what I did!
A UK dentist gave me an examination, a quote, and took x-rays.
But... whatever you do, it'll be cheaper than the US.... and this guy's technology is no way "Eastern European"..... much more advanced than my UK dentist!
I know I'm starting to sound like an advert......but I've never looked back!!

Mexico's close.. we're looking at it. My GF goes regularly and has a great dentist she uses there. Many Mexico-based dentists went to school up in the States anyway.

When we were in Greece, Romania was a popular place to go for dental work. I thought the prices in Greece were pretty good, to tell the truth. Thanks for the Hungary lead!

Hungary sounds wonderful but Mexico is a lot closer, do you have a link to your GF's dentist ?

I don't, and she's just left this morning to go down there. I promise I will ask when I hear from her and post back.
However, a little searching will reveal other offices set up like the Hungary link.. telling you how to prepare from up norte. Costa Rica is another popular medical tourism destination.. you can order your plastic surgery ahead of time!

Cheers, I will take a gander online, of course it's always nice to have a recommendation so a nod in the right direction would be appreciated.
