And of course their taxes had paid to keep the hospitals, doctors, nurses and ambulances ready to help them for those 50 years, even if they were lucky enough not to need them.

I don't think that makes any difference. At age 65 he should be covered as long as you worked at least 10 years in the US.

You should contact the SS administration to make sure there won't be any problems.

Yep, when we moved to our current house 5 years ago we had to show utility bills to register with our GP and NHS dentist.

Well, no. There are many different types, 1, 1.5, 2, LADA, MODY, gestational, secondary plus type 2 is a pretty wide diagnosis that encompasses a lot of different presentations. By the "right" type I mean one that you can control with diet, exercise and maybe a combo of the $10/90 day meds. But you're right. Any form of diabetes that isn't managed well will result in complications.

He's probably uninsurable at this point given his age and condition except perhaps with some states' high risk pool.

I was just about to say the same. My wife has type 2 diabetes and no insurance company would cover her when we moved over. We used the Oregon State Medical Pool for her which caps the premiums at 125% of the normal cost. Expensive but still better than not at all.

The OP does need to check if her State has high risk cover scheme they could use.

The other thing she does is use generic drugs that keeps the monthly cost we pay for those very low.

I just found the followng link (official social security web site) that indicates that you must be 62 and he must be at least 65 before he is eligible for medicare benefits based on your earnings.

Yep, I denied someone a couple of months ago when I was at work, he was trying to scam us...something didn't add up, turned out he had no right to non-emergency NHS treatment, so we denied him his laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gall bladder removal). He says he's willing to pay, but I seriously doubt that, if anyone knows much about that operation, it's quite a biggy.

I think she denied a non-resident, free non-emergency healthcare

That's correct she did but it isn't his right...he's not a resident of the UK.

I didn't see where she said he was a non-resident. But how can someone scam anyone when they need their gallbladder removed? Just doesn't seem very charitable to help out this poor person. Not like he was asking for cosmetic surgery.....

Yeh, he should have come to the US. I am sure hospitals would have been rushing to treat him for free here.
