I submitted my NIE waiver request on Monday, and got it approved today (Wednesday). It took 3 business days, whereas in the past it took 5 business days (on average).

How did you contact theUS Embassy. I cannot find any links to email them. I am going to try and get an NIE for my partner who isa British citizen under compassionate reasons. The only thing is I think you have to travel within 30 days and I have no idea when my son in law is going to take a turn for the worst. So I think I should wait till he has his scan in 2 weeks and see what the doctors say. With an NIE what kind of proof would you need from the doctor?

Update on my travel back the US: the new NIE process seems more efficient. 1) the BA check-in at LHR T5 First Wing was a breeze (it was a simple phone call to override the system); and 2) I didn't get pulled over to the CBP office like last time at LAX, instead the officer by the GE kiosks checked the printed email from the Embassy, and he said "welcome back".

Rumoured to be looking at the middle of May to lift the travel restrictions into US. We've been here before of course!

Yeah...it’s a stretch. It is one thing for the US to ease restrictions, but I can’t see many of the other countries doing so.

Indeed. US cases are down hugely, but seem to have plateaued around 50k per day. That's only about 20% lower than last summer's peak. So I can't see many countries rushing any time soon to ease restrictions on US residents entering, especially with several more dangerous variants out there.

Hi - this question is on behalf of a neighbor and wondering if anyone has any advice for her. I can find information on how to enter the USA with a certificate attesting to prior infection, but not how to enter the UK.

Looking for advice - my sister and her husband had covid in late March, they have quarantined and are symtom-free. It’s our understanding that after covid you can still test positive for up to 90 days, but are not supposed to be contagious. they’re supposed to fly home to London tomorrow (booked before they had covid). They tested positive yesterday. The airline isn’t giving them any advice and they can’t reach anyone at the British consulate. Has anyone else experienced something like this? Obviously they want to do what’s safest for all.

I would anticipate they need to test negative, friend who had it had a test about a month after diagnosis and was negative.
