Childhood games

In addition to what others have posted:
Curbs - standing on either side of a road with a football and trying to throw it directly onto the curb on the other side.
Penny football - tuppence and two pennies with the back most coin being pushed between the other two in order to progress up the "pitch" - a long bench.

Used to play that one too. Curbs. I think we called it Kerby. Was just thinking about that one too.
World Cup Willie, with a tennis ball.

I literally spent hours doing that.

We played a game where you chalked a small circle on the floor and put a bottle top in the centre. Then two of you stood on opposite sides about 10 feet from the circle and bounced a tennis ball to each other trying to knock the bottle top out of the circle. No idea what we called it.

I was fascinated watching the girls play Cat's Cradle, never understood how they remembered all the moves in sequence.

Re: Childhood games
One of the highlights of the school year was a netball match between the girls team and the male teachers at the end of school year celebrations. The guys kept losing because they wanted to run with the ball.

Re: Childhood games
Yes netball was the only sport I wasn't too bad at, because you didn't have to move much

Re: Childhood games
I liked conkers.
Bike chase, played over miles of the local neighbourhood.
British Bulldog, Stuck in the Mud, Chainy (all version of tag)
We called the ball against the kerb, Kerbie too.
We played 'ollies', marbles to most of you.
and 'jingles' which were circle metal cut outs (like the top of a tin can), that we used to get from the local factory, a gang of kids would stand by the fence shouting 'Jingles!, jingles!' until one of the employees emptied a container full of them near the fence, then it was a piley-on to get as many as you could. It was played like coin toss, you throw them against the wall and the nearest without touching the wall was the winner.

Re: Childhood games
We used to love to play in the London Underground. Strictly forbidden by our parents, of course, but we loved to travel on the escalators and run up and down the platforms. In retrospect, not sure how we actually got down on the platforms. Some of us must have bought a ticket I would imagine or maybe we used to sneak through the turnstile.

Kiss chase
Pom-pom
Peep behind the curtain
Walk up the garden path without laughing
Football - jumpers for goalposts. Rush goalie. Two at the back, three in the middle, four up front, one's gone home for his tea. Beans on toast? Possibly, don't quote me on that. Marvellous
