I understand that most Americans are proud of their country, but this every-other-country-is-third-rate-crap attitude, poorly disguised as U.S. patriotism is almost more than I can handle.
Case in point...Last night my OH and I went to see Boston in concert (yes, I know, people who can't hear anymore, listening to people who can't sing anymore). I know Boston are quintessentially American and that over half the crowd were trailer trash, but everyone there was channeling John Mellencamp/every Budweiser commercial - "This is America, baby!" "We're the golden country, man!" "God bless our soldiers!". Has anyone had a more sickeningly "patriotic" experience?

We are living in Marketing country. It's marketing BS everywhere here, which is why you can sell anything here. Not all, but most americans are very niave and will beleive almost anything and follow it. Just look at the UFO conspiracy. I studied this and found out that thousands have been sighted in America compared to only handful in other countries around...why you ask? Because it sells books, DVD, movies, posters etc. It's always sucking you to beleive anything in the USA to make money off it.
Never heard of a UFO landing in Central Park or London Bridge right? Of course not, it always happens in the desert somewhere. Wake up and smell your over priced Starbucks coffee Americans!

Some of the people I work with who have disabilties started out as kids like yours or your friends, then something happened a car accident maybe and their development was delayed.
So next time you look at a a child you care about, imagine if they became disabled and how you might feel about the people who call them that horrible name.
Believe it or not the people you are referring to have feelings and are deeply hurt by these kind of 'jokes'.
