Myself I lived in Orange County for a couple of years. As far as I could tell I was practically the only British person down there. Funnily enough though my girlfriend works in theatre, and I actually ended up meeting several people from the UK that way. Not people I got to socialise with though...

Just look for British/Irish pubs and you might find a few Brits , there are loads of pubs scattered throughout LA. Suprisingly British pubs are not usually found in Hispanic, Black, Korean etc. neighborhoods
Where in LA are you?

There are 2 Olde ship pubs in OC, never been there myself but I'm sure there would be some Brits in there.

I have absolutely no desire to meet any English people! Sorry if I gave the wrong impression. I wasn't suggesting that I couldn't find them, just that they stay very localised. I know exactly where they are to be found and thank my lucky stars I live on the other side of town (South Pasadena).

Sorry you're not feeling well. And I don't blame Elina. Hey, I saw a job prospect for you (not knowing exactly what you do of course) on a website for a company that distributes back bacon.

I don't feel that bad however yesterday I played soccer then we had a BBQ immediately afterwards rehydrating with alcohol in a cold park without showering, perhaps that has something to do with it? . You can PM it to me if you want. I was in military electronics but at this point I could sell bacon
Why don't you like Florida?

Its hot, they have hurricanes, big bugs, humidity......the list could be endless. But, I have to admit, its a theory by some, on this site, that I'm not happy anywhere....

I'll pm you.

Where in LA are you?
Practically West Hollywood - very close to Sunset and La Brea.

As the heading of this Thread is British Culture in LA., I must make my comment, I tend to agree with Dant3, I'm familiar with your 'neck of the woods', it is one of the more civilized spots of Los Angeles, I love going to the Huntington Gallery and having a 'peep' at Gainsborough and other Master's of the Art's, I never get tired of viewing 'Blue Boy' and 'Pinkie', then having tea in the Garden. I prefer Huntington Gardens, more so, than the Getty in Brentwood, more laid back.
I am a season member of 'Pasadena Playhouse', (I know So.Pasadena is seperate to Pasadena). I mention this yawny stuff as when ex Brits complain they can't find other Brits (not ref. to you) they do not know how to mingle. Brits I encountered in Pubs were always whining and moaning about the job, the country, money or the wife, when I suggested they go back, they always said their sig.other had a good job here, so I surmised, the 'other' was paying for the booze.

Nice curry house on La Brea and Melrose (the Mumtaz) we spend a lot of time around that area (even though we live east of Pasadena) as most of our friends live in West Hollywood. The bars on the nice end of the strip past the Mondrian (Red Rock etc) have a lot of Brits in them ... PM me for some detail

For me it's simply a case of not having a clue where to go. I have quite a few American friends, so we always go out to the places they know which inadvertantly are always filled with other Americans they know. Once I find myself a cozy pub or something, I'll have no problem making contacts (as long as they're willing too, of course).

I have no problem being here. If you ask me it's practically the same - both governments have crap policies, we watch the same movies, eat the same junk food, etc. etc. Just everyone's a little bit louder and you really have to hunt around for some decent beer.

I think its down to personal experience - we where lucky enough to know a few recent expats from my wife's home town, most hooking up with USC partners after their moves. All are very positive about LA and the Brits we have met through them are the same.
We don't actively go out looking for Brits and there are none in the city we live in but it is harder making US friends .... I think that it will take a few more years to get those connections
