CNN was reporting this morning that sperm donations from Europe are no longer allowed in the US for the same reasons as blood donation. There's a company that specialises in it apparently and they are now very low on stock.

It won't be long before the US bans Americans from visiting Europe, or Europeans from visiting the US in case they dare to have sex with each other.

and

My husband says that when he went to university (UMIST in Manchester) there were appeals to the (cash strapped)students to donate sperm for money. He says he never did it (I bloody well hope not) but he knew of some students who did.

Quite recently in the UK the law was changed so that any children born via donated sperm now have the right to track down their biological father. Apparently now there is a huge drop in the number of donations as the men are worried that there could be dozens of children turning up on their doorstep in years to come, or worse, that if the law changed again they may end up becoming financially liable for these children.

In many womens' magazines there are adverts appealing for egg donors. This is a very painful and complicated procedure for a woman....one has to have a course of hormone injections to stimulate egg production as the clinics try to harvest as many eggs as possible in one go. My eggs are too old now (I'm in my mid 40s) but I could never have done it.....

True nuff. And daft. I have quite a rare blood type, too. Maybe once we get to NZ I'll be able to donate... not sure! Might be worth banking some of my own, just in case!

Thanks for the reminder.

I'm going to book my session now for when I'm in the UK in November. I hate that I can't donate here.
