Default I need help with a question

Hello everyone! While searching for some info, I happened upon this site.
My husband and two kids came out here in 2001. We all now have green cards. Things have not been good for us and we are now seeking a divorce. I have called local attorneys who are flabbergasted and don't know how to handle this. I had heard that we may have to get divorced back in the UK, but that would be more costly that we really want.
Does anyone know where I can find out how to get a Divorce in the USA.
Thanks.

Make sure you're calling divorce attorneys. They should not be surprised at something like this. Yes, you can get divorced in the USA. Keep calling divorce attorneys until you find one that isn't flabbergasted.

Divorce is a state issue -- so you need to tell us which state you're in! You do NOT need to go back to the UK to do this.

NC needs a year's separation. Is that good for you? If not, move to a different state with easier rules and file from there. Residence in a state is usually required -- 90 days is pretty common but they vary.

Yes Patrick, thanks. A dream gone wrong. We thought it would be a new start but due to certain factors things just got worse and worse. We are actually getting on better since we have parted ways. The kids are older now and two have moved away. Its always upsetting but I hope they understand.

Thanks for all the answers.
I still wonder how you prove you've been apart a year.

I would think you'd have to live in different abodes. Also, living in a different city or state would help plenty if that's feasible.
