I was in Austin for visiting only. I do not know anything about its job market. As a visitor I liked it, downtown is very colorful and bubbly.

As far as I know TX is a good place regarding jobs. Take care GB!

I've had no troubles finding work in Austin, one place even gave me the job just because of the accent
Craigslist really is your friend! most of the best job listings turn up on there, though nothing beats canvassing everywhere with your resume, if they hear the accent you've got a foot in the door!
Austin is a great city, best of luck to you

I guess the accent never hurts.

As of right now, Im in San Diego until the weekend. Trying to enjoy the time with my buddy who is visiting best I can.

That's all you can do, GB

Divorce, or rather the telling that a divorce is wanted, is never easy unless the other person is as unhappy as you are. Your wife should not have brought you to the US knowing that she was uncertain about the marriage but coming did give you the opportunity to experience life a bit here and the opportunity to live and work anywhere in the 50 states you wish to work in.

Have a great visit with your friend.

It has been a good visit and I have tried to forget all this crap andjust concentrate on having fun, so I have had reasonable success with that.

I leave Sunday for Texas but I am dreading the driving, but at least I have a new car LOL. ( I was able to make the payment for this month)

Thanks for the support everyone, it cheers me to see how supportive folks are being.

Have you gotten to do any road trips yet? They are FUN. Bring snacks and drinks in the car and plenty of music. If you listen to NPR bring a list of the stations for the major areas you'll be passing through. If you're not used to driving long distances be sure to take plenty of breaks and pay attention to your fatigue levels - have a pillow handy so you can pull up in a rest stop and take a nap. Give yourself time to see the sights, and pick up a good road map before you set out. Bring your camera if you've got one - you'll see some amazing scenery!

I've never driven across AZ and NM so I don't know what the motel-frequency is like, but when driving from NY to WA I never had problems finding a reasonable place to stop for the night sometime before sunset. You could also aim to stay at hostels, which I did in Ireland and really enjoyed (and they're cheap!) - see http://www.hostelusa.com/ for some listings and you could search by town on google if you have destinations in mind.

Are you kidding! Road Trip!
Arizona and New Mexico are beauuuuutiful, I love driving there. You can stop in Tombstone!
Texas, well now, that's a whole 'nother country. There's a neat place called Truth or Consequences, New Mexico at the border where you can take a mineral soak.
I love road trips.

GB I cannot imagine being in the situation you found yourself in, and your first post made me really sad...but as I read through the posts I was getting excited for you.
If you can do this, it will be like (I am assuming you are over 18) being a gap year student. As long as you have enough money to live frugally....take some time out and explore. I bloody love the idea of a road trip.

Best of luck whatever you do, I'm sure things will work out for you.

Remember to have your green card handy as well as your passport for police stops in Texas and Arizona.

Tombstone? Tourist trap par excellence. If you're down that way visit Kartchner Caverns, and (believing GB to be a high-quality nerd) the Titan Missile Base at Sahuarita, south of Tucson.

Border control in Texas can be very weird. Even years ago, before 9/11, just going through border control near Corpus we were pulled aside and questioned for almost an hour and that was after having our Green Card checked out so I would say a Passport as well isn't a bad idea
