Seems like half the kids around here drink soda with every meal including breakfast

There's a bunch of grown-ups in my office who drink nothing else!

We very rarely drink soda at home, the kids usually get Sprite or root beer at a restaurant though.

mine get apple juice, milk or water. Soda makes em nasty

We get them Juicy Juice once in a while if it's on sale. They get to drink it with their after school snack. Still milk or water with dinner though.

I let my kids have lemonade too if we're in a restaurant. I think it is better than coke and they deserve a little treat now and again. They appreciate it too bceause they don't get fizzy drinks at home.

my DD only gets milk or water...very rarely a capri sun as a treat...and I know that sounds mean but I have to pay her dentist bill every 6 months and her teeth over the past 4 years have cost me an absolute fortune..

We're the same, but I'm shocked at the amount of kids my daughters age (13) and their families who only drink soda, (or drink a lot of it anyway) .

We drank lots and lots of koolaid. The sugar content probably wasn't much better than soda, but it was a lot cheaper for my folks!

Same here except it was Countrytime Lemonade. My dad loved it (when he wasn't drinking beer).

Hmm, little wonder americans need such extensive dental treatment by the time they're adults eh?.

That was just about the only sweet he liked...he has perfect teeth still and he just turned 62. Same with my brother...he used to sneak and buy candy on the way home from school with pop bottle money, steal any frosting/baking product that had sugar in it from the pantry, but never had a cavity.

As for Americans needing extensive dental treatment, that's new to me. As long as you take care them "as you go" with proper eating/brushing/flossing habits you shouldn't need anything other than cleanings. My brothers and I never needed anything extensive nor my adult kids. Maybe there's a new trend I don't know about.

(The only one I know needing extensive treatment was DH when he came here to live.)

Lemonade and cool aid are just so tooth achingly sweet to me. Makes me feel like my teeth have socks on them.
Yesterday my daughter stopped by her dads to pick up something and came out with a couple of Ho Ho's (?) they looked like our mini swiss rolls, so I asked for a bite...OMG pure sugar and nasty!

And they are full of so many chemicals! They have a shelf life of about 20 years. They are very bad for you.

No kidding. But I have no control over what her father provides for her. My kids don't get any of that rubbish at my house....oh and how they complain, they are the most hard done by children you could wish to meet if you listen to them. Their evil cow of a step- mother makes them eat veggies and wheat bread for gods sake!
