The ones that are or will defend him if/when he's charged. There seems to be a lot of talk on the internet that the cop mistakenly pulled his handgun thinking it was his taser gun. I was just wondering if, when he is charged this would be the line the lawyers would take.

Can you?
An unarmed man on the ground surrounded by half a dozen armed police, it takes a tremendous leap of imagination to conceive of any justification.
The public is at risk from the police if they are unable to distinguish a Glock from a Tazer.

I'd like the investigation to go a little further. Why was this person on the police force? Is this a common occurrence? What steps do we need to take to stop these people becoming cops? etc.

"That data showed the city has a core group of violence-prone officers -- fewer than 100 in a force of 2,200.
This group contrasts sharply with the rest of the department. The overwhelming number of officers in any given year report using no force at all, the department's records show. And the total number of use-of-force incidents reported by city police is in the range national experts consider acceptable. ........... Officers with questionable records are promoted to supervisory positions or assigned to train rookies, putting them in position to carry forward a culture that tolerates or rewards the use of force. "
The city paid out over $5 million in lawsuit settlements between 1996 and 2005.

The San Francisco Chronicle went though the police reports and found what the SFPD had never done.

I can't imagine any justifiable reason for shooting Oscar Grant.
Can you?

Imagine, never tried that but being a trained investigator I always went with the gather all the available evidence together evaluate it and see what it told me approach.
